Women's Basketball Achieves Top 25 Ranking For 2008-09 Attendance

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

University of Kansas women’s basketball head coach Bonnie Henrickson and her Jayhawk team found themselves ranked in the Top 25 when the NCAA announced attendance numbers from the 2008-09 season. Kansas, who advanced to the 2009 WNIT Championship game, averaged a program-best 4,109 fans per game, ranking 25th on the NCAA attendance chart.

The Jayhawks, who set a Big 12 Conference single game attendance record with 16,113 people in attendance for the WNIT Championship game versus South Florida, recorded five games with 5,000 or more fans in attendance. KU averaged 1,360 more fans per game in 2008-09 than the previous season, ranking the Jayhawks fourth on the NCAA list for increased attendance.

Kansas was one of eight Big 12 Conference teams to land in the top 25 in the NCAA attendance rankings, helping push the conference to the top of the attendance standings for the 10th consecutive year. The Big 12 reached the one million mark for the fourth time in conference history, as the league totaled an NCAA record 1,073,069 fans for an average of 5,312 per game.
