KU's Gockel Falls In WSGA Quarterfinals

ALBANY, Ga. – After claiming medalist honors and winning her first two matches, University of Kansas golfer Meghan Gockel fell in the quarterfinals of the Women’s Southern Golf Association Amateur on Thursday.
Gockel, a senior to be at Kansas, was knocked out of competition by current USGA Junior Girls Champion Alexis Thompson 4 & 3. Thompson built up a four-stroke lead after the first nine holes and held on to close the match after the 15th hole.
Gockel was KU’s top finisher in two tournaments this past spring, winning the Duramed Collegiate Invitational and tying for sixth at the Big 12 Championship. Her 79.09 scoring average was fourth on the team, while her 22 rounds played were tied for fourth.
