June 7, 2006

Former University of Kansas men’s golfer Travis Hurst fired a two-round total of 137 at Fox Run Golf Club in St. Louis to qualify for the 2007 U.S. Open, June 15-18, at Winged Foot Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y.

Hurst, from Erie, Kan., recorded a 70-67 in the St. Louis U.S. Open sectional 36-hole qualifier and was the only player in the St. Louis sectional to shoot under par.

Hurst, 26, was a two-year letterwinner for the Jayhawks in 2001 and 2002. His 72.33 stroke average in 2002 ranks fifth on KU’s all-time season list.

Former Jayhawk Matt Goegel did not qualify shooting a 146 in the St. Louis sectional.
