Simpson Drafted by Cleveland Indians

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

University of Kansas outfielder Brock Simpson has been drafted by the Cleveland Indians. Simpson was the 13th pick of the 46th round (1,358 overall) in the 2007 Major League Baseball draft. Simpson hit .256 during his junior season at KU with eight doubles, four triples and three home runs. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Simpson, a Topeka, Kan., native, set career highs in RBIs (42), runs scored (39) and stolen bases (13) this season. During his career at KU, the right fielder hit .270 with 20 doubles, 11 triples and six home runs. He also stole 18 bases.

The junior is one of just 13 Jayhawks to collect more than 11 triples in his career. He tied a school record with two in a game earlier this year against Western Illinois.

Simpson’s teammates Zach Ashwood and Kyle Murphy were both drafted earlier today.
