Eight KU Teams Post 3.0-Plus GPAs in Spring Semester

June 10, 2005

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Highlighting eight teams posting 3.0 grade point averages or better, the University of Kansas Athletic Department released its Spring 2005 semester team grades Friday.

Included was the KU women’s tennis team, which set an all-time team record at Kansas with a combined 3.49 grade point average (GPA). Joining the tennis squad with 3.0 GPAs or better were men’s golf (3.30), soccer (3.23), swimming & diving (3.21), rowing (3.19), volleyball (3.18), women’s track & field (3.10) and softball (3.02).

“This is a testament to the hard work our student-athletes put into the classroom,” Kansas Athletics Director Lew Perkins said. “So many times we recognize these kids for the achievements on the fields and courts and not for their academic success. These student-athletes, their coaches and our student support staff should be commended for an outstanding spring.”

A total of 204 student-athletes — 50 percent of students-athletes on active rosters — posted a 3.0 GPA or higher to qualify for the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. Included were 31 individuals with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Additionally, the entire athletic department posted a 2.92 GPA for the spring semester.
