Hile, Diamonds Win 4-3 in Season Opener

June 10, 2011

AKRON, Ohio –

FormerUniversity of Kansas softball player, Brittany Hile, made her professional debut last night as her squad, the NPF Diamonds, edged the Akron Racers 4-3 in both teams’ season opener. Hile was the 15th overall pick in the National Pro Fastpitch Senior Draft by the Diamonds last March.

The Olathe, Kan., native started at catcher for the Orlando-based team. Despite going 0-for-2 at the plate, Hile collected a walk in the contest and later threw out a base runner attempting to steal.

The Diamonds plated two runs in the top of the second inning with a bases-loaded double. Akron came back to tie the game after four innings but the Diamonds hit two sacrifice flies in the fifth to regain the lead at 4-2 and held off a Racer comeback in the sixth frame to hold on for the 4-3 victory.

Hile (2008-11) finished her career at Kansas with the program’s fifth-most career home runs (23) and eighth-most RBIs (93). During her senior season in 2011, the catcher earned NFCA All-Region Second Team honors after amassing 13 round-trippers, which stands as the third-best mark in a KU single season.

Hile and the Diamonds will be back in action Friday, June 10 when they take on the Racers at 7:05 p.m. in Akron, Ohio.
