Community members will have the chance to experience the excitement of shooting baskets in legendary Allen Fieldhouse. To promote the importance of men’s health, the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Association (LMHEA) will host Hoops for Men’s Health at Allen Fieldhouse on Sunday, June 26.

The event will include a free throw competition and information about men’s health issues. “Many men need to take a more active role in protecting their own health,” said Ted Haggart, President of Douglas County Bank and a member of the LMHEA Board of Directors. “It’s important to our families and friends, as well as our own well being. Hoops for Men’s Health is a fun way to learn how we all can take better care of ourselves.”

This is the first year for the Hoops for Men’s Health event. Registration for the free throw competition is $25 and tickets for the luncheon are $50. Teams of 4, as well as individuals, can participate in the free throw competition.

Dr. Sheahon Zenger, KU Athletic Director, will be the featured speaker during a lunch promoting men’s health. “In college athletics, we’ve worked to highlight women’s health issues for years, and for us it makes sense to focus on men’s health as well,” Zenger said. “I have many friends and colleagues who need to make their health a priority and I hope this effort helps call attention to the importance of men’s health.”
