LAWRENCE, Kan. – University of Kansas senior pitcher Ricky Fairchild signed a free agent contract with the Cleveland Indians. Fairchild started 18 games for the Jayhawks in 2006 and compiled a 6-6 record.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Fairchild joined Kansas before the 2006 season after transferring from Tulane University. The right-hander spent all season in KU’s weekend rotation and tallied 42 strikeouts in 95.1 innings of work.

Fairchild is the seventh member of the 2006 Big 12 Champions team to be picked up by an MLB team. He joins Don Czyz, Sean Land, Gus Milner, Ritchie Price, Jared Schweitzer and Kodiak Quick who were selected in last week’s draft.
