LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Future Kansas women’s golfers Meghan Gockel (Dallas, Texas) and Emily Powers (Quincy, Ill.) competed in U.S. Open sectional qualifying on Monday, with neither able to make the cut to advance.

Playing at the TPC at Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas, Gockel fired a 79-85 over 36 holes to miss the cut of 147. Powers shot 77-75. Only six golfers advanced from the site.

Gockel put up a round of 75 at the Westwood Golf Club in Houston on May 15 to advance to the second stage, while Powers shot 78 at the St. Louis Country Club on May 16 to qualify. The pair will arrive on campus and be available to compete for the Jayhawks this fall.
