Kansas Softball Adds Transfer

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

FormerAlabamaHigh School Association Class 5A Pitcher of the Year Morgan Druhan will transfer to the University of Kansas to play softball for the 2011-12 academic year, it was announced by the Jayhawks’ head coach Megan Smith. Druhan played the last two seasons for South Alabama in the Sun Belt Conference.

Druhan earned high school pitcher of the year honors in 2009 while at Spanish Fort High School before going on to play at South Alabama. Last season for the Jaguars, the Spanish Fort, Ala., native went 10-6 in 24 appearances and was second on the squad with a 2.77 ERA, while her 143 strikeouts were tops on the team. In 2010 Druhan was named to the Sun Belt Commissioner’s Academic List.

“We are really excited to have a pitcher of Morgan’s caliber join our program for the next two seasons,” said Smith, who prepares to enter her third year at the helm of the KU softball program. “She will come in and make an immediate impact and be a huge part of our success next season. Her tremendous strength, confidence, presence and successful experience pitching against top-level offensive teams will allow for her to step up into a leadership role within our pitching staff immediately.”

The 5-6 hurler led Spanish FortHS to the state semi-finals her senior year after recording 420 strikeouts in 194.2 innings of work. As a junior in 2008, Druhan played in the north/south all-star game.
