Former KU Golfer Thompson Finishes 3rd In Adams Golf Pro Tour Event

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Former Kansas golfer Chris Thompson came up short Saturday in his attempt to win his second consecutive victory on the Adams Golf Pro Tour.

Thompson shot a three-under-par 69 Saturday, finishing the tournament at 10 under par, six strokes behind winner James Marshall at the Colbert Charity Classic in Manhattan, Kan. Thompson started the final round in third place, four strokes behind third-round leader Robert Streb, who had shot a 66 Friday. But it wasn’t Streb who stole the show Saturday.

Marshall, from Canada, shot a sizzling eight-under-par 64 Saturday, winning the tournament with a 16-under 272. Marshall had started the final round three strokes behind Streb and one ahead of Thompson. But Saturday, after an even par on the front nine, Marshall shot seven-under over the first six holes of the back nine and cruised to the victory.

Thompson won last week’s Adams Tour stop – the Northwest Arkansas Open in Rogers, Arkansas – with a 17-under 271.

Thompson was a member of the Jayhawks’ 1999 team that won the Big 12 Championship, earning the squad a berth in the NCAA Championship.
