Woodland In Top 60 Through Day One of U.S. Open

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – With a four-over 74, former Kansas golfer Gary Woodland is tied for 52nd place after day one of the U.S. Open. Woodland, who played for the Jayhawks from 2004-07, is appearing in his third U.S. Open (2009, 2011, 2012).

Woodland suffered five bogeys on the front nine before finishing the day with a solid 35 on the last nine holes with the help of two birdies. The Topeka, Kan., native is currently eight strokes behind leader Michael Thompson, who owns the top spot through day one with a 66.

Woodland will tee off again on Friday, June 15 with the eighth group on the ninth hole beginning at at 9:33 a.m. CST.
