June 16, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas assistant women’s golf coach Sara Trew has been named the head women’s golf coach at Florida Gulf Coast University, the Fort Myers, Fla. school announced Thursday.

Trew spent the last five seasons as Erin O’Neil’s assistant after graduating from Arkansas. Trew assisted in all aspects of the KU program, specifically focusing on helping players gain more distance in their shots.

“We are sad to see Sarah leave, but this is a great opportunity for her,” O’Neil said. “She has been an asset to our team and we wish her all the best.”

Trew started her playing career at Georgia before transferring to Arkansas. While at Arkansas, she was a three-year letterwinner and a Southeast Conference Academic Honor Roll Recipient from 2003-06.

Trew inherits an FGCU team that is coming off a third-place finish at the Atlantic Sun Championships, the highest in program history. The Eagles return three players that were a part of the run at the conference championship, including top-five finishers senior Fabienne Haremza and junior Briana Carlson.
