A.D.'s Corner

August 28, 2007

Dear Jayhawk Fans:

The 2007 KU Football Season is here! We are all excited at the promise this season brings as Coach Mangino, his staff and players work hard toward their goal of a Big 12 Championship.

As you can tell, construction is well underway on the $31-million Anderson Family Football Complex just southwest of Kivisto Field at Memorial Stadium. This football facility will help Kansas football compete on a more even plane with the national powers in the Big 12 Conference.

You will still be able to tailgate on Campanile Hill. KU Public Safety will establish a boundary line to designate where tailgating is allowed on the hill.

New parking lots have been built near the stadium, and free shuttles will take you to and from the stadium from non-adjacent parking lots (starting two hours before game time). (Click here for a Shuttle/Tailgating map.) The University has added several new “tailgating-allowed” parking lots. Those lots are: 1, 33, 36, 39, 50, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 72, 91, 94, 124 and part of 3. Tailgating is permitted in the Mississippi Street parking garage, but no cooking is allowed there.

Public toll parking for home football games will no longer be available on Memorial Drive or in the Mississippi Street garage. KU Parking & Transit will sell a limited number of parking spaces in lot 72 between the Allen Fieldhouse parking garage and the Burge Union. This is now an approved tailgating lot. The free shuttle will serve this lot.

Free public parking will be available in lots 90 (east of Allen Fieldhouse), 71, 125 and 127 (south of Allen Fieldhouse), and 61 and 62 (east of the computer center on Sunnyside Avenue). The free shuttle will serve lot 90, but not the other free lots.

One other change: The Allen Fieldhouse parking garage will be available only to those with valid KU parking permits.

You will notice, also, that during this season normal walking patterns will be altered slightly while construction continues. Despite that, you’ll still be able to walk down Campanile Hill if that’s your pleasure! Unfortunately, the Kids’ Fun Zone will have to take the year off in 2007.

We ask your patience during this season. Please remember that when it’s completed, the project will signify the beginning of an exciting new era in Kansas Football and Kansas Athletics!

Thank you very much for traveling with us on this journey. We look forward to seeing you at Kivisto Field many times this season!

Sincerely,

Lew Perkins
Director of Athletics
