Collegiate Summer Leagues

John Allman and Ryne Price have led the Anchorage Glacier Pilots of the Alaska Baseball League to an 8-3 record.
Three current Jayhawks are playing for the Duluth Huskies of the Northwoods League. Paul Smyth has been stellar in his seven appearances out of the bullpen, the freshman has a team-best 0.73 ERA while striking out more batters then hits allowed (10 K’s/9 Hits) in 12.1 innings. Andy Marks is 1-2 in three starts for the Huskies. Also on the team are outfielder Brock Simpson and KU recruit Robby Price. Price saw his first action on the mound on June 22nd with positive results.

Justin Ellrich leads the Nevada Griffons of the Jayhawk League in RBI (10) and home runs (2).

One of KU assistant coach Kevin Tucker’s Little Falls Diamond Miners’ earned New York Collegiate Baseball League Pitcher of the Week honors.

Jayhawks in the Pros

Gus Milner has made an impact in his first two professional games with the Batavia Muckdogs. In his pro debut, Milner went 1-for-4, with two runs and an RBI. Milner followed up his debut with a four RBI performance.

Jared Schweitzer was 1-for-4 while hitting lead-off and playing 2B in his pro debut on June 20 for the State College Spikes.
Schweitzer and Milner will be reunited on Friday, June 23 when Batavia and State College begin a three-game series.
On June 20, Ritchie Price came off the bench to make his pro debut with the Brooklyn Cyclones. Price started the next game at shortstop.
Sean Land, Ricky Fairchild and Don Czyz have yet to make their professional debuts.
With Oregon State’s run deep into the NCAA College World Series, Czyz is now tied for the nation lead in saves with OSU’s Kevin Gunderson.
Les Walrond is 7-2 with the Iowa Cubs in AAA and will face Seth Etherton of the Omaha Royals on Friday, June 23.
John Nelson leads the Memphis Redbirds with 11 home runs.
Tom Gorzelanny will play in the eighth annual Futures Game on July 9 during All-Star Week at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Gorzelanny is on the brink of being recalled by the Pirates.
