June 24, 2010
LAWRENCE, Kan. –
Former Kansas second baseman Robby Price has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Midwest Region team. Price was named to the second team, becoming the second Jayhawk in as many years to be recognized on the All-Midwest Region squad.
Price, a senior second baseman Lawrence, Kan., enjoyed a career year in 2010, batting .351 with highs in doubles (19), homers (six), runs (67), RBIs (49) and slugging percentage (.557). He became the first Jayhawk to be named Big 12 Player of the Week three times in the same season. He produced a 22-game hitting streak in March and April, which ranks as the third-longest in KU history and was the second-longest in the Big 12 this season. He was also one of two Jayhawks named first team all-conference this year.
The senior enjoyed a fabulous KU career, ranking in the team’s top 10 in career games played (232), at bats (847), hits (261), runs (204), triples (12), walks (139), and is the career leader in sacrifice bunts (55). Price also recorded a career fielding percentage of .979, committing just 22 errors in 1,003 chances.
He was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 13th round of the Major League First-Year Player Draft earlier this month. He opened his professional career with the Hudson Valley Renegades of the New York-Penn League last week.
