ESPN's "TitleTown USA" Feature on Lawrence to Air Between July 5-July 23

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Approximately 2,000 Kansas fans joined in ESPN’s “TitleTown USA taping Friday morning in Allen Fieldhouse.

The City of Lawrence is one of 20 finalists in the running for ESPN’s “TitleTown USA.” The Lawrence feature will air on ESPN’s SportsCenter between July 5 and July 23. ESPN has yet to announce its specific broadcast schedule of 20 finalists cities.

“TitleTown USA” is an interactive and multimedia effort to determine which city, town or municipality is America’s top championship location. A panel of judges narrowed down fan-generated nominations to 20 finalists; ultimately, online voting by fans will determine the nation’s top sports town. On ESPN’s SportsCenter, Lawrence was announced June 24 as a finalist and will go up against cities as big as New York and small as Parkersburg, West Virginia.

Kansas men’s basketball national champion head coach Bill Self was the main interviewee for the “TitleTown USA” segment. The Spirit Squad, Big Jay, Baby Jay and the KU Pep Band were also featured along with numerous national championship and bowl trophies.
