LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kalynd Carson, a recent signee for the Kansas women’s golf team, claimed a victory in the 52nd Annual Texas-Oklahoma Junior Tournament played in Wichita Falls, Texas last week.

Carson, an 18-year old from The Woodlands, Texas, shot a four-round 297 to edge Brittany Smith by one shot. Carson, who will be a freshman at KU this fall, defeated the third-place finisher by five strokes.

Carson opened the tournament with a 75 before shooting 72 in the second round. She led the tournament after shooting a 74 in the third round. Her final-day 76 was enough to earn the victory.

Previous winners of the pretigious tournament who have reached the LPGA include Wendy Ward (1990), Kelli Kuhne (1992 and 1994) and Reilly Ranking (1995 and 1996).
