Jayhawk Baseball Players Enjoy Success in the Classroom

LAWRENCE, Kan. –
A record 23 Kansas baseball players were named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, including three student-athletes – seniors Matt Lane and Joe Southers and freshman Phil Parrish – who recorded perfect 4.0 grade point averages for the spring semester.
“I’d like to congratulate our team for their accomplishments in the classroom this past season,” head coach Ritch Price said. “I’d also like to give a shout out to Academic Advisor Glenn Quick for his providing his expertise and commitment to the classroom success of our guys.”
Other players on the AD’s Honor Roll include seniors John Allman, Justin Ellrich and Hiarali Garcia; juniors Buck Afenir, Nick Faunce, Sam Freeman, Tai Mitchell and Paul Smyth; sophomores Max Ellenbecker, Wally Marciel, Thomas Marcin, Robby Price and Blake Slagle; freshmen Brett Bochy, Brian Heere, Greg Herbst, Casey Lytle, Tony Thompson, T.J. Walz and Jimmy Waters.
The Athletic Director’s Honor Roll is comprised of student-athletes who were or are eligible for competition in their sport’s current season and who made at least a 3.0 GPA during the fall semester.
As a team, the Jayhawks posted a 2.95 GPA overall for the spring semester, up from a 2.78 team GPA during the 2007 fall semester.
