Jayhawks Qualify For U.S. Women's Amateur

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas golfers Amanda Costner and Annie Giangrosso qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur, a USGA Championship, on Friday at Indian Hills Country Club in Kansas City, Mo.

In the Kansas City sectional, the women were competing for six qualifying spots. Costner, a senior, shot 75 to qualify, while Giangrosso, a junior, shot 76 putting her in a play-off for the last spot. Giangrosso outplayed her competitors, Brianna Broderick, Richmond, Mo., and Ashley Medders, Alma, Ga., in the play-off shooting a par on the first hole. The top score in the sectional was 73 by Jill Marcum, Clarinda, Iowa, and Chelsea Schriewer, St. Charles, Mo.

The U.S. Women’s Amateur will be held August 7-13 in North Plains, Ore., at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.
