Nine Jayhawks Set to Compete in 2009 Kansas Amateur

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Nine Jayhawks, past and present, will travel to Mission Hills, Kan. July 27-Aug. 2 to compete in the 2009 Kansas Amateur at Kansas City Country Club. Six of the nine Jayhawks qualified for the event via local qualifying sites, while three Jayhawks received exemptions.

Head coach Kit Grove received an exemption to the event after concurring the 2009 Kansas Mid-Amateur Championship. Senior Patrick Roth also received an exemption after finishing runner-up at the 2008 Kansas Amateur. Former Jayhawk Conrad Roberts also received an exemption into the event.

Former Jayhawks Pete Krsnich and Zach Pederson qualified at the Falcon Lakes qualifying site. Krsnich won medalist honors at the event.

Four Jayhawks qualified at the July 6 qualifying site at Lawrence Country Club. Recently graduated Andrew Storm carded an even-par 70 to place second in the event. He was joined in qualifying by senior Bobby Knowles, junior Nate Barbee and sophomore Blake Giroux.

The 256-player Kansas Amateur begins with 36 holes of stroke play, followed by a match play tournament for the 64 remaining qualifiers to determine the champion. Former Jayhawk and current PGA Tour member Gary Woodland won the event in 2007.
