KU's Sydney Wilson Finishes Fifth at Kansas Women's Golf Amateur Championship

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>WICHITA, Kan. – Kansas redshirt freshman Sydney Wilson shot a third-round 74 to place fifth at the 85th Kansas Women’s Amateur Golf Championship at Reflection Ridge Golf Club Wichita, Wednesday.

With a 72 par at Reflection Ridge, Wilson fired a two over 74 in her final two rounds and a three-round total of 226. The Lawrence native finished eight strokes behind Elisa Houtz of Manhattan who shot a 218 (73-69-76) in the championship flight.

KU redshirt freshman Alyssa Rainbolt, from Wichita, was in a three-way tie for ninth overall (81-77-78–236), but lost a playoff for a top 10 individual medal to Krista Hrdlicka of Wahoo, Neb., and Gail Burden of Winfield, Kan.

Wilson’s finished marked the second straight year a KU golfer has placed in the top five of the Kansas Women’s Amateur Golf Championship. KU senior Annie Giangrosso won the event last summer.
