Jayhawks in Summer Leagues Update #2

Throughout the summer, kuathletics.com will check in with the current Jayhawks, who are participating in summer baseball leagues throughout the country. Many of these leagues began in June and will play through the middle of August.
Junior outfielder Jason Brunansky is playing with the San Diego Waves of the Southern California Collegiate Baseball Association. Brunansky has played in 15 games for the Waves this summer and is batting .289 with five doubles and five stolen bases. The Kansas junior also has a .385 on-base percentage and has just two strikeouts in 45 at bats.
Sophomore catcher Alex DeLeon is playing with the Palm Springs Power baseball team this summer. DeLeon has played in 22 games, making 16 starts behind the plate and batting .294 with nine doubles and 11 RBIs. The Kansas catcher has scored 13 runs and has reached base at a .395 clip.
Sophomore infielder Jordan Dreiling is playing with the Hawaii Aliis of the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League this summer. Dreiling is batting .326 with two doubles and 10 RBIs in 16 games for the Aliis this summer. He is also 5-for-5 in stolen bases this year.
Sophomore outfielder Jacob Dunnichay is playing with the Oahu Paddlers of the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League this summer. Dunnichay has played in 18 games, making 16 starts in the outfield. The Kansas sophomore is batting .167 with 12 runs scored. Dunnichay has also made one appearance on the mound, pitching 2/3 of an inning.
Freshman infielder Ka’iana Eldredge is also playing with the Oahu Paddlers of the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League this summer. Eldredge leads the Paddlers with a .345 batting average with four doubles, 18 runs scored and 11 stolen bases. The Kansas freshman is eighth in the league in batting average and tied for the league lead in stolen bases.
Junior first baseman Zac Elgie is playing for the San Luis-Obispo Blues in the California Collegiate League. Elgie will participate in the California Collegiate League All-Star game on Wednesday night after batting .302 with six doubles, two homers and 18 RBIs in the first 22 games of the season.
Freshman outfielder Alex Harris is also with the San Diego Waves this summer. Harris has played in 12 games and is batting .161 with one double, one homer and three stolen bases. The Kansas freshman has reached base at a .289 clip this season.
Freshman catcher Tom Hougland is playing with the Waimea Waves of the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League this summer. Hougland has played in 14 games, making 11 starts and is batting .244 with five runs scored, five RBIs and two stolen bases.
Redshirt junior right-handed pitcher Jordan Jakubov is pitching with the Rochester Honkers of the Northwoods League. Jakubov has pitched in 11 games and is 0-2 with a 4.03 ERA and one save. Jakobov has pitched 29 innings and has recorded 20 strikeouts and 11 walks. The Kansas junior has also played seven games in the field and is batting .280 with a home run and three RBIs.
Redshirt junior right-handed pitcher Matt Kohurst is playing with the Terre Haute Rex baseball team of the Prospect League. Kohorst is 2-2 with a 4.13 ERA in nine games for the Rex. The Kansas righty has recorded 14 strikeouts in 24 innings and allowed 11 walks.
Sophomore infielder Kevin Kuntz is playing with the Duluth Huskies of the Northwoods League this summer. Kuntz is batting .291 with six RBIs and five stolen bases. The Kansas sophomore has reached base at a .419 clip, recording 24 walks in 30 games. Kuntz is second in the league with his 24 walks.
Junior first baseman Chris Manship is playing with the Duluth Huskies of the Northwoods League this summer. Manship is batting .315 in 34 games for the Huskies with 14 doubles, three homers and 24 RBIs. Manship has a .492 slugging percentage and a .397 on-base percentage.
Redshirt sophomore infielder Jake Marasco is playing with the Rochester Honkers of the Northwoods League this summer. Marasco has played in 30 games and is batting .243 with seven doubles and five RBIs.
Sophomore pitcher Tanner Poppe is playing with the Newport Gulls of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Poppe has made three starts for the Gulls and is 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA. The Kansas sophomore has pitched 13 innings, allowing 10 hits and four runs with five walks and 10 strikeouts.
Freshman pitcher Tyler Smith is playing with the Victoria Generals of the Texas Collegiate League this summer. Smith has made five starts for the Generals, going 2-2 with a 3.68 ERA in 29 1/3 innings on the mound. The Kansas freshman has held opponents to a .226 batting average and recorded 23 strikeouts this summer.
Junior catcher James Stanfield is playing with the Kamuela Paniolos of the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League this summer. Stanfield is leading the league in batting with a .488 batting average and has three doubles, a triple and 12 RBIs. The Kansas junior has reached base at a .551 on-base percentage and a .605 slugging percentage.
Redshirt sophomore right-handed pitcher Thomas Taylor is pitching for the Willmar Stingers of the Northwoods League this summer. Taylor has turned his season around, winning each of his last two starts. The Kansas sophomore is 2-1 on the season with a 3.55 ERA with 29 strikeouts in 38 innings on the mound. He has recorded a 1.13 WHIP and allowed opponents a .257 batting average.
