Jayhawks Busy with July Camp Season

July 11, 2012

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Jayhawk volleyball coaching staff is rolling through July with eight-straight days of instructional summer camps.

Two days after returning from Columbus, Ohio and coaching at this summer’s U.S. Women’s National A2 Team Program, head coach Ray Bechard and his staff kicked off four consecutive camps, beginning with a hitters clinic on July 7 and another for defensive specialists on July 8.

This week, the Jayhawks are hosting back-to-back team camps with the first set running from July 9-11 and the second from July 12-14. Bechard explained that due to camp enrollment continuing to climb, the decision was made to add a second team camp as to ensure each camper would receive the maximum amount of one-on-one instruction.

Each team is assigned a camp staff member to help facilitate all the skills learned throughout the camp. During the three-day span, basic skills are targeted in morning session drills, with team play incorporated to teach how all the fundamentals work in a live-game setting. The evening sessions revolve around competition.

The Jayhawk volleyball team will host its final camp of the summer July 20-22.
