Volleyball Enjoys Successful Summer Camps

July 12, 2006

More than 230 volleyball players in grades 6-12 rounded out Session #2 of the 2006 Ray Bechard All-Skills Volleyball Camp Wednesday on the University of Kansas campus. The four-day session wrapped up the summer’s individual camps hosted by Bechard and his KU coaching staff.

“We had a great turnout this year,” Bechard said. “We had players from Canada and states all over the country and some very talented campers. It was very rewarding for my staff and I to see their passion for the sport.”

Jayhawks past and present were in attendance as camp counselors and coaches. Approximately 750 volleyball players will attend Bechard’s camps this summer. Teams are still invited to join the final session of the summer, the Team Camp, from July 26-28. For information, click here.

“Having a great turnout at camps also helps our program by getting kids on our campus and in our facilities,” Bechard added. “They get a better understanding of our program and at the same time, we are helping the game of volleyball grow in our area.”

Bechard, entering his ninth season at KU, has led the Jayhawks to three straight NCAA Tournament bids over the last three seasons. KU begins two-a-day practices on Aug. 8 and opens its season Aug. 25 at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
