July 12, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Four women from the Kansas swimming and diving team were selected as Scholar All-Americans by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America for their performance in both the pool and classroom during the 2009-10 school year.

Former Jayhawk Emily Lanteigne, senior Amanda Maez and sophomores Monica Johannessen and Rebecca Swank were all first team selections.

“Each semester our team goal is to achieve a GPA of over 3.25, and we did an outstanding job in the classroom this year,” Kansas head coach Clark Campbell said. “Our success is due to the hard work of our student-athletes and our academic advisor, Laura Jacobsen. The entire program is very happy for Monica, Rebecca, Emily and Amanda for earning individual Academic All-America honors.”

Collaboratively, the team posted a 3.33 GPA during the 2009-10 academic year and was named an Scholar All-America team by the CSCAA.

In February 2010, 13 Kansas swimmers and divers were named to the Academic All-Big 12 team, posting 10 first team members (3.20 GPA or higher), and three second team members (3.00-3.19 GPA).

The Jayhawks will begin their 2010-11 season with the annual Alumni meet on Sept. 24 in Robinson Natatorium.
