Reid, Gordon named Preseason All-Big 12

July 16, 2005

DALLAS — In a poll of the 2005 Big 12 media, Kansas cornerback Charles Gordon and linebacker Nick Reid were both named to the Preseason All-Big 12 football team in a release issued Saturday by the league.

Gordon, a junior, tied for the national lead in 2004 with seven interceptions, after his first full season on the defensive side of the ball. He set numerous freshman receiving records for KU in 2003 as a wide receiver. Reid, a senior, led the Kansas defense with 109 tackles, including a team-best 15 tackles for loss last year. He is the leading returning tackler in the Big 12 Conference.

Both Reid and Gordon were among the 42 players named earlier this summer to the Lott Trophy — an award which goes to the top defensive player in the nation.

Adrian Peterson (Oklahoma) was named Preseason Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, Rodrique Wright (Texas) was selected Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and Zac Taylor (Nebraska) was chosen Preseason Newcomer of the Year.
