July 18, 2005

Manhattan, Kan. –

University of Kansas junior Gary Woodland captured the 95th Kansas Amateur Match Play Championship on Sunday, July 17.

The Berryton, Kan., native defeated Tyler Shelton, 1-up, with the winning par putt at the 18th hole at Colbert Hills Golf Course. Woodland and Shelton, a former Jayhawk golfer, battled to an all-square tie after the first 18 holes in the morning round.

Woodland will return to action today when he and Kansas junior Tyler Docking finish the Kansas Four-Ball championship at Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence. The match was originally scheduled for June 11 but was postponed by rain. The KU duo are facing two players from the University of Missouri for the title.
