The four-day camp saw more than 120 young Jayhawk fans participate in the event sponsored by Head Coach Bonnie Henrickson and the members of the women’s team.

“This has been a great opportunity for us to take the time out of our busy schedules and help out some young players,” said junior-to-be Tania Jackson. “The most important thing for us is giving back to the community and the kids who come out to our games and support us.”

The four-day long Junior Jayhawk Camp featured more than 120 boys and girls. The first through fifth graders worked on their basketball skills through fundamental drills and five-on-five games as well as being treated to fun events such as movie sessions, contests, carnival day, a tour of the athletic facilities and a special visit from Baby Jay.

The Kansas staff directed the campers throughout the week and got some additional help from area club coaches. The Jayhawk players coached and officiated the young campers throughout the week’s drills and scrimmages and even joined in on some of the contests on the final day to close out the camp.

Coach Henrickson’s Holiday Clinic will be the next camp hosted by the Jayhawks. The event begins in early January and is eligible for all first through eighth graders. More information will be posted on the KU women’s basketball camps site, BonnieBall.com, as it becomes available.

The Junior Jayhawk Camp closed out a busy summer schedule for the KU coaches and players as they hosted a total of four camps in two months. The Elite Camp (June 7-9), the Individual Camp (June 24-27), the Jayhawk Jamboree (June 30) as well as the Junior Jayhawk Camp (July 16-19) combined to see hundreds of basketball players of all ages receive demonstrations and instruction from the KU women inside historic Allen Fieldhouse and the Kansas facilities.
