Jayhawk Summer Tour Hits Topeka Sunday

LAWRENCE, Kan. — The 2009 Jayhawk Summer Tour rolls into Topeka, Kan. Sunday, July 26.

The Kansas Museum of History and Kansas Historical Society is the site of the Topeka stop, which begins at 6 p.m. The fun includes inflatable games, an appearance by Baby Jay and the KU Spirit Squad members and a performance by the Topeka Jayhawk Club’s alumni band. Face painting and complimentary food and beverages will also be available for all fans in attendance. Head Football Coach Mark Mangino will address the crowd at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The Kansas Museum of History is located at 6425 SW 6th Avenue. Fans can take Exit 356 on I-70 in west Topeka, then turn north to enter the roundabout and follow the signs directing west to the museum.

The 2009 Jayhawk Summer Tour is a collaboration between Kansas Athletics and the KU Alumni Association, who have partnered to bring the University of Kansas to Jayhawk fans across the state. The tour stop in Topeka is also being supported by the Topeka Jayhawk Club. The tour, which kicked off May 30 in Garden City, also includes stops in Hays, Pittsburg, Liberal, Emporia, Salina, Wichita, and Kansas City.

“The KU Alumni Association has spent considerable energy building powerful Jayhawk chapters throughout Kansas,” said Kevin Corbett, president of the KU Alumni Association. “The Jayhawk Summer Tour will be yet another example of our unwavering commitment to engage alumni and friends to strengthen the University of Kansas.”

All Jayhawk alumni, fans and friends are invited to events along the tour, which will include golf outings, dinners and rallies to kick off the 2009 football season. Special guests from the alumni association, athletics department and football coaching staff will be on hand at every stop. Fans can pick up 2009 commemorative football items, have a chance to win autographed merchandise and tickets, and Jayhawk apparel.

“We have wonderful fans across the entire state of Kansas who often travel a great distance to Lawrence to watch games and visit the University,” KU Athletics Director Lew Perkins said. “The Jayhawk Summer Tour provides us an opportunity to reach out to those fans and bring the University of Kansas to them.”

Wichita: July 30, 2009

Head Coach Mark Mangino will address the Jayhawks in Wichita. Larry Bud’s will host the event. Inflatable games, food and beverage will be available.

Emporia: July 31, 2009

Members of the KU Alumni Association and football staff will be on hand for the rally in Emporia. Commemorative football items and inflatable kids’ games will highlight the stop in Emporia.

Kansas City: August 21, 2009.

Corinth Square, Prairie Village, Kan. Jayhawk fans can flock to 83rd and Mission to hear from women’s basketball coach Bonnie Henrickson and head football coach Mark Mangino. Inflatable games, Jayhawk apparel and 2009 commemorative items will be available.
