KU's Grove and Gilbert Qualify for Kansas Amateur Match Play

Kansas men’s golf coach Kit Grove finished second in the final round of stroke play qualifying at the Kansas Amateur Championship Wednesday, with a final-day score of 69. Grove shot a four-under 68 on Tuesday. His two-round total was 137, just one stroke behind K-State golfer Kyle Smell. Grove enters today’s single-elimination match play as the two-seed, teeing off at 9:54 a.m.
KU junior Chris Gilbert, who is tied for fifth with a final-day 72, finished just four shots back from the leader with his two-day 140 total. Gilbert will continue play Thursday as the seven-seed at 10:30 a.m.
Incoming KU freshman David Auer also qualified for Thursday’s match play with a second round score of 73, making his two-day total 144, which is tied for 16th place. Auer will tee off at 8:33 a.m. as the 20-seed.
