Gary Woodland Advances to Kansas Amateur Final

LAWRENCE, KAN. –

Recently graduated Gary Woodland won two matches in strong fashion today to advance to the finals of the 97th Kansas Amateur. <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Woodland, who is competing in his hometown of Topeka, Kan., will try to win the event for the second time. He previously won the event in 2005.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Woodland defeated Matt Ewald in his first match by a score of 3&2 and then followed that up with another 3&2 victory in the semifinals against Jason Schulte. Woodland will take on Wes Stonestreet, a native of Sublette, Kan., in the 36-hole final tomorrow.

Woodland capped off his Jayhawk career in grand fashion this past season. He recorded three victories during his senior campaign along with 5 other top-10 finishes. Woodland finished his senior season with a stroke average of 72.26
