KU Radio Broadcasts Move to New Stations in Kansas City and Topeka

Kansas Athletics broadcasts next season will move to new radio stations in Kansas City and Topeka, Jayhawk Radio Network and KU officials announced Tuesday.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
KCSP, 610 Sports, becomes the new Jayhawk Radio Network affiliate in Kansas City, replacing fellow Entercom station 980 KMBZ. KCSP will broadcast all KU football and men’s basketball games, along with the weekly “Hawk Talk” football and men’s basketball coaches’ shows. All women’s basketball games also will be broadcast in Kansas City, either on 610 Sports or an Entercom partner station. An Entercom station also will broadcast “Hawk Talk,” women’s basketball coach Bonnie Henrickson’s weekly radio show.
“We’re excited about moving to 610 Sports and staying with Entercom,” Kansas Athletics Director Lew Perkins said. “KCSP’s strong signal, particularly at night, gives our teams terrific additional coverage.”
“We’re pleased to continue the Jayhawk Radio Network partnership with Entercom on one of the premiere sports stations in Kansas City,” said Angela Haar, general manager of ESPN Plus at KU, which operates the network. “The broadcast signal of 610 Sports also expands our coverage in Eastern Kansas and into Missouri,” Haar said.
In Topeka, WIBW 580 AM becomes the Jayhawk Radio Network affiliate. The Topeka station will broadcast all KU programming, including football, men’s and women’s basketball and coaches’ shows.
“WIBW is one of the midwest’s great stations,” Perkins said of the station that owns the 11th-strongest signal in the country. “This will make it easier for our fans to follow the Jayhawks.”
“We’re particularly excited that WIBW’s powerhouse signal will expand the reach of KU women’s basketball to most of the state,” Haar said.
The new stations in Kansas City and Topeka gives the Jayhawk Radio Network the largest coverage area it has ever had, Haar said.
