Bauer Named KU Media Relations Assistant

LAWRENCE, Kan. – University of Kansas graduate Alissa Bauer has returned to her alma mater as an assistant media relations director. Bauer started her duties at KU Athletics July 19 and will handle publicity for the Jayhawk volleyball and softball programs, while assisting in other areas.

Bauer spent the previous year working in the University of Houston media relations office. While there she was the primary contact for men’s and women’s cross country, swimming and diving and softball teams. She also served as the secondary contact for women’s basketball.

Bauer got her start in media relations at Wichita State, where she spent two years as a graduate assistant. Bauer earned a master’s degree in sports management while working with the school’s men and women’s tennis and golf programs.

While a student at Kansas, where she earned a journalism degree in 2007, Bauer wrote for the school newspaper and covered KU’s baseball and women’s soccer teams. She also was an intern for 1510 AM radio in Kansas City.

Bauer graduated from Winfield (Kan.) High School where she played softball and basketball. She furthered her softball career, playing two seasons at Barton County Community College before transferring to KU.
