Recent KU Graduate Thiry Advances In LPGA Qualifying Tournament

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Grace Thiry, a senior on the 2011 Kansas women’s golf team, has advanced to the final two rounds of the first-stage of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament this week.

Thiry made the two-round cut and will need to finish among the top third of the 72 golfers remaining to advance to the second stage of qualifying.

Thiry, a Victoria, Australia native, who was a four-year letterwinner for the Jayhawks from 2008-11, just made the cut tying for 65th place after two rounds. She shot a four-over par 75 Tuesday and a one-over par 73 Wednesday for a 148 total.

She will have two rounds to make up probably four-eight strokes on the field to make the top third of the field. Alexis Thompson leads the field at 12-under 132, while 26 golfers shot 141 or better and another seven are at 142.
