Seven Jayhawks advance to Match Play at 99th Kansas Amateur

MISSION HILLS, Kan. – Seven Jayhawks survived the stroke play portion of the 99th Kansas Amateur at Kansas City Country Club to advance to match play.

Former Jayhawk Andrew Storm followed his first round 67 up with a second round 75 and is seeded 12th in the 64-man match play bracket. He will meet Zechariah Potter in his first round match.

Kansas head coach Kit Grove bested his first round score by two strokes to card a 71 in round two and is seeded 20th in the match play bracket. Grove will meet Mark Elliott in round one.

Recent KU graduate Zach Pederson, like Grove, shot a 144 in the two stroke play rounds and is seeded 18th in the match play bracket. Pederson will face off with Aaron Mapel in round one.

2008 Kansas Amateur runner-up Patrick Roth joined Grove and Pederson to card a 144 in stroke play and is seeded 24th in match play and will oppose Eric Mode in round one.

Junior Nate Barbee shot rounds of 74 and 72 in stroke play and is seeded 31st in the match play bracket. Barbee, who led the Jayhawks in scoring average during the 2008-09 season, will meet Jack Courington in round one.

Sophomore Blake Giroux shot a second round 73 to advance to match play and will meet ninth-seeded Jon Troutman in round one.

Former Jayhawk Pete Krsnich missed out on qualifying for match play by one stroke. Junior Bobby Knowles missed out by three strokes with a two round score of 154.

The first and second rounds of match play will be conducted July 30.
