Kansas Football Ranked 13th In USA Today Preseason Poll

LAWRENCE, Kan. – With 40 returning lettermen, including 15 starters off of last season’s 12-1 team, the Kansas football team has been ranked 13th in the nation in the preseason USA Today Coaches Poll released on Friday.

The preseason ranking is the fifth for the Kansas football program, which was listed in preseason Associated Press polls in 1952 (17th), 1961 (eighth), 1976 (19th) and 1996 (24th).

The Jayhawks finished last year ranked seventh in the final USA Today poll after defeating Virginia Tech in the FedEx Orange Bowl.

Georgia tops the 2008 preseason listings followed by USC, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Florida.

The Jayhawks will face five teams listed in the top 25, as well as two others which received votes. KU will meet number four Oklahoma, number seven Missouri, number 10 Texas, number 14 Texas Tech and number 21 South Florida. KU will also play Nebraska and Colorado, which received votes.

Kansas begins training camp on Saturday. The Jayhawks will open the 2008 season hosting Florida International on August 30 at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at www.kuathletics.com.
