LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas held its first football practice of the season on Friday and head coach Mark Mangino liked what he saw.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

“I really liked the tempo we had for a first practice out here,” Mangino said. “There was tremendous enthusiasm. The new players were learning. There are a lot of guys starting from scratch. The veteran players seem to have done a good job of retaining things from the spring. It was a very good start and I am very pleased.”

The Jayhawks will return to the field on Saturday morning. The team will then hold an open practice to the public on Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. The workout will take place on the grass fields just west of the baseball stadium.

Season, single-game and flex-pack tickets are currently on sale. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Allen Fieldhouse Ticket Office, by phone at (800) 34-HAWKS or online at www.kuathletics.com.

The Jayhawks will open the season hosting <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Central Michigan on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. The contest is the first of four straight home games for KU to begin the 2007 campaign.
