KU's Reesing Named To O'Brien Watch List

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas senior Todd Reesing has been named to the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award Watch List it was announced on Monday.

The annual award recognizes the nation’s top quarterback. The watch list includes 33 quarterbacks who were selected by the O’Brien Selection Committee. In addition to Reesing, Big 12 quarterbacks on the list include Sam Bradford of Oklahoma, Robert Griffin of Baylor, Colt McCoy of Texas, Taylor Potts of Texas Tech and Zac Robinson of Oklahoma State.

Reesing, a senior, was an O’Brien Award semifinalist in each of the past two seasons as he led Kansas to a combined 20-6 record and consecutive bowl victories. KU’s career passing leader ranked seventh in the nation in passing yards last year with 299.08 per game. He also ranked eighth in total offense (316.31), ninth in completions (25.31), 15th in points responsible for (16.62) and 17th in pass efficiency (148.52).

Reesing threw for 3,888 yards in 2008 to break the school mark he set the previous season when he registered 3,486 yards. For his career he has thrown for 7,578 yards, 68 touchdowns and completed 64.2 percent of his passes as the Jayhawks won the 2008 Orange Bowl and the 2008 Insight Bowl the last two years.

Semifinalists will be announced Oct. 26, finalists Nov. 23 and the winner Dec. 10. During all rounds of voting, the committee members are asked to evaluate each candidate on the criteria of quarterback skills and athletic ability, academics, reputation as a team player, character, leadership and sportsmanship.
