Kansas Swimmers Complete First Day at USA Nationals

IRVINE, Calif. –

Current and former Kansas swimmers Abigail Anderson, Joy Bunting, Danielle Herrmann and Stephanie Payne completed the first day of the 2010 ConocoPhillips National Championships in Irvine, Calif.

Herrmann, Bunting and Payne all competed in the 200-meter IM on the first day. Herrmann, Kansas’ new volunteer assistant coach, placed 53rd with a lifetime-best time of 2:20.25. Bunting, a senior from Greeley Colo., placed 71st with a lifetime-best time of 2:21.71. Payne, a junior from Derby, Kan., placed 111th with a time of 2:24.76.

In the 100-meter butterfly, Anderson, a junior from Hendersonville, Tenn., placed 133rd with a lifetime-best time of 1:04.62.

“All four swimmers had an outstanding first day,” Kansas head swimming coach Clark Campbell said. “Danielle, Joy and Abigail all had lifetime bests, and Stephanie was almost at a lifetime best today. We went in with the intent to get new best times, and I think we definitely achieved that today.”
