Kansas Football Team Reports For Fall Camp

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

A blistering hot summer is about to heat up even more for the Kansas football team as they reported for Fall Camp Wednesday afternoon. Jayhawk head coach Turner Gill welcomed his full squad as he kicks off his second season at the helm of the KU program.

The players checked into Naismith Hall in the late afternoon hours, before heading off to attend team meetings and eat dinner. The Jayhawks will hit the practice fields for the first time Thursday afternoon in shorts as they get acclimated to the August high temperatures.

The team will work out in full pads for the first time on Monday, Aug. 8, before hosting Media Day on the afternoon Tuesday, Aug. 9. Practice will resume on Wednesday, Aug. 10, with the KU team scheduled to go through its first two-a-day practice.

Other notable dates coming up for the Kansas football program include: Football 101 With Turner Gill (Aug. 13), Sixth Annual KU Kickoff at Corinth Square (Aug. 19), Family Fun Fest (Aug. 20) and Hawk Talk Kick Off Rally (Sept. 1).

The Jayhawks return 41 letterwinners, including 15 starters from Gill’s first KU team. Kansas will open the 2011 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 3, when it plays host to McNeese State. KU will take on the Cowboys at 6 p.m., at Kivisto Field at Memorial Stadium.
