Aug. 4, 2010

NEW ORLEANS, La. –

Led by Academic All-Americans senior Lauren Bonds, junior Amanda Miller, sophomores Julia Cummings and Rebeka Stowe and freshmen Heather Bergmann and Allie Marquis, the Kansas women’s track and field team was one of 151 teams to be named a 2010 Division I All-Academic Track & Field Teams by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA).

In order to earn the distinction the team must produce a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Kansas, one of eight Big 12 Conference schools to earn the award, turned in a team GPA of 3.24.

In addition to having an excellent year in the classroom, the Jayhawks were led on the track and in the field by the six Academic All-Americans. Bonds earned All-America honors during both the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2010. She was an indoor All-American as a member of the distance medley relay and and outdoor All-American in the 1,500 meters. Stowe joined Bonds on the KU distance medley relay team, snagging indoor All-America honors.

Miller, Cummings, Bergmann and Marquis each competed at the 2010 NCAA West Preliminary Meet in their respective events.
