Aug. 5, 2008

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The University of Kansas soccer team reported to campus Tuesday morning and will hold its first practices of the 2008 season Wednesday at 8 a.m., and at 4 p.m.

Kansas head coach Mark Francis welcomes back eight returning starters and 16 student-athletes overall from last year’s squad, which finished third in the Big 12. The Jayhawks have nine newcomers on the 2008 roster.

KU opens the season with an exhibition match against Drake on Saturday, Aug. 16 at 3 p.m., at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex. Six days later, the team will open the regular season when Purdue visits Lawrence on Aug. 22.

The Jayhawks finished 4-5-1 at home last season, but won their final three contests at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex, including a 2-1 triumph over Border Showdown rival Missouri in the regular season finale.
