Kansas' Costner Advances in U.S. Women's Amateur

CARMEL, Ind. – Jayhawks golfer, Amanda Costner advanced to play in the first round of match play today at the 2007 U.S. Women’s Golf Amateur at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.

The Women’s Amateur is conducted with 36 holes of stroke-play qualifying. The 64 low-scorers then advance to match play, with the champion determined by a 36-hole match-play final. Costner shot a six-over score of 150 during her 36 hole qualify round and as the 58th seed, the Claremore, Okla. native will match-up with the seventh seeded, Jenny Suh of Fairfax, Va. Suh went three under during stroke play.

Sophomore Meghan Gockel finished in a tie for 89th place. She remained just a birdie away from contention through the 12th hole on Day two, but finished the back nine with a three-over, 39 and four strokes off the pace.

Costner and Suh will begin their match play round at 12:50 p.m. CT.
