Kansas Football Receives Votes In USA Today Coaches Poll

LAWRENCE, Kan. – USA Today released its college football preseason coaches poll on Friday and the Kansas Jayhawks fell just one position short of making the top 25 listings.

Kansas received 138 points in the poll and is the top team receiving votes, the equivalent of 26th nationally. Oregon State made the 25th spot with 165 points.

Florida topped the preseason listings, followed by Texas, Oklahoma, USC and Alabama. In all, four Big 12 schools are ranked in the top 25, including three Jayhawk opponents in No. 2 Texas, No. 3 Oklahoma and No. 22 Nebraska. Oklahoma State is No. 11.

Other Big 12 schools receiving votes in addition to Kansas, were Texas Tech (equivalent of 27th), Missouri (34th) and Colorado (53rd).

Kansas was in the top 25 or received votes in the USA Today poll in 14 of 16 polls last season. The Jayhawks were ranked 13th in last year’s preseason poll and finished the season receiving votes.
