KU Football Training Camp Underway

Aug. 8, 2009

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Fall training camp opened for the 2009 Kansas football team on Friday. The Jayhawks took the field again on Saturday morning and had another workout scheduled for Sunday to complete the first weekend of practice.

Jayhawk Head Coach Mark Mangino was pleased with his team on the first day.

“For the first day I liked what I saw,” he said Friday. “The things that are important on the first day are hustling, enthusiasm and learning. All those things were there. We have a long, long way to go, but it was a good first step today.”

Mangino, the consensus 2007 National Coach of the Year, is entering his eighth season at Kansas. He has guided the Jayhawks to four straight bowl-eligible seasons, as well as three straight bowl victories (2005 Fort Worth Bowl, 2008 Orange Bowl and 2008 Insight Bowl).

Jayhawk fans will have an opportunity to see the team when Kansas holds an open practice on Tuesday, August 11 at 9 a.m.

Kansas opens the 2009 season hosting Northern Colorado on Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. Season and single-game ticket information is available at www.kuathletics.com.
