MARYSVILLE, Calif. – Kansas rising sophomore outfielder Joe Moroney has been named to the 2012 Horizon Air Summer Series All-Series Baseball Team the league announced Wednesday. Moroney was one of 15 players named to the series’ first team, which is presented by Diamond Sports.

Moroney, a 5-foot-8 outfielder from Pleasanton, Calif., was one of the top hitters in the Far West Baseball League this summer. He batted .325 in 35 games with five doubles, two triples and 27 runs scored. He also went 12-for-19 in stolen base attempts and recorded a .443 on-base percentage.

He played in 11 games for the Jayhawks as a freshman, compiling a .250 batting average with two runs scored.

The Horizon Air Summer Series is an 11-week competition among elite college summer wood bat baseball clubs from the West Coast. The Horizon Air Summer Series crosses collegiate leagues boundaries to form a “league of leagues.”

Moroney played for the Neptune Beach Pearl, which finished their summer with a 31-18 record.
