Miller and Anderson Join KU Soccer Coaching Staff

Aug. 10, 2005

LAWRENCE, Kan. – University of Kansas Head Coach Mark Francis has announced two additions to his coaching staff for the upcoming 2005 season. Meghan Miller joins the staff as a volunteer assistant coach while Jenny Anderson joins KU as the director of soccer operations.

Miller joins the coaching staff after a four-year career with the Jayhawks where she was recognized as one of the best goalkeepers in the nation. After posting a 0.57 goals-against average during her senior season in 2004, Miller was named First Team All-Big 12 for the second consecutive year and an all-american by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The Seattle, Wash., native is KU’s all-time leader in goals-against average for both a career (0.98) and season (0.57). She also holds the school record for most career shutouts (30) and starts with 87.

“Meghan was a very successful player for us, being an all-american,” commented Francis. “Any time you can keep someone like that involved it helps the credibility of your program. She wants to be a coach and this is a good opportunity for her to see what it is like from the coaches side.”

Anderson comes to Kansas after a successful four-year playing career at Clemson. As a defender, Anderson played in 65 matches for the Tigers. She helped Clemson reach the NCAA Tournament all four seasons, including the Sweet 16 in 2001. The Mission Viejo, Calif., native was named a Freshman All-American by Soccer Buzz Magazine and to the ACC All-Freshman Team in 2001. During her career, Anderson was a two-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll.

“Jenny is a great kid and we are excited to have her,” said Francis. “She was a very good player and comes from a program that has had a lot of success. Anyone who has been in a successful program brings in different ideas and she will be a big help to Kelly (Miller) with recruiting.”

Miller, Anderson and the rest of the 2005 Jayhawk team officially begin practice on Thur., Aug 11. The defending Big 12 Champions will open up its schedule with an exhibition match against Drake on Aug. 20. Opening kick-off is set for 1 p.m. at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.
