Aug. 10, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas junior relief pitcher Colton Murray has been named the No. 30 player in ESPN Reporter Keith Law’s Top 30 Prospects in the Cape Cod League.

Murray, who pitched for the Brewster Whitecaps of the Cape Cod League this summer, went 1-1 during the regular season with an 0.47 ERA in 18 games. The 6-foot-1 right-handed reliever recorded eight saves with eight walks and 25 strikeouts in 19 innings for Brewster this season.

Brewster fell in the quarterfinal round of the Cape League playoffs to Orleans on Sunday, Aug. 8 in a best-of-three series.

As a sophomore last season at KU, Murray posted a 1-2 record with a 4.83 ERA with four saves in 27 relief appearances. He recorded 36 strikeouts in 31 2/3 innings for the Jayhawks in 2010.

“Murray’s a pure reliever who worked at 91 to 93 mph with some life up in the zone and a short slider at 82 to 83 that was extremely sharp,” said Law in the article.

Other Big 12 players listed in Law’s Top 30 include: No. 22 Nick Martini (OF/Kansas State), No. 25 Max Muncy (IF/Baylor).
