Jayhawks to Make Appearance(s) on ESPN's College GameDay for Third-Consecutive Season

Aug. 11, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The Kansas men’s basketball team has once again been slated to play a contest that will be featured on ESPN’s College GameDay as was announced by the network on Thursday. The GameDay crew will get its first taste of the Border Showdown when the Jayhawks travel to Columbia, Mo., for the Feb., 4th match-up against Missouri. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. (CT).

Later in the season, the Jayhawks could have a chance to host a College Gameday game for the second-consecutive season. New to the GameDay schedule this year is the “flex pick” option for the March 3 game. College GameDay will either stop in Lawrence, Kan., for Texas at Kansas 8 p.m., game or in Durham, N.C., for North Carolina at Duke in a 6 p.m. matchup. If Kansas were to be selected to host Gameday on March 3, it would be the show’s fifth visit to the school (2004-05, 2006-07, 2007-08, 2010-11), which would be the most of any program.

“This is a great way to showcase the KU program and the Big 12 Conference,” Kansas head coach Bell Self said. “As much as we enjoy playing on (ESPN College) GameDay, we like hosting the crew even more and showcasing Allen Fieldhouse, the best venue for college basketball.”

The KU-Missouri contest will mark the third-straight season the Jayhawks have appeared on ESPN’s Saturday night primetime event and will be KU’s seventh appearance since the show’s inception in 2005. KU has won its previous three games featured on College GameDay including last season when the Jayhawks defeated the Kansas State Wildcats in Lawrence, 90-66.
